A parent is discharged from hospital, or is simply getting older, and suddenly someone has to manage wound dressings, injections, a catheter or a daily medicine schedule at home. That someone is usually an adult child with a full-time job. Home nursing exists to lift that clinical load off the family without moving the patient into a facility.
What a home nurse actually does
DHA-licensed nurses handle wound and post-surgical dressing, IV and intramuscular injections, catheter and feeding tube care, vital-sign monitoring, diabetic foot care, and giving medication on schedule. A booking can be a single procedure, a daily hour, or a longer shift, depending on what the patient needs. The nurse works to a doctor's care plan. She is not there to replace the treating physician, but to carry out what he has ordered and to record what she sees.

Why the written record matters
Every visit is documented — what was given, what was observed, how a wound compares with the previous day. That record stays with the patient rather than with one nurse, so a change of shift does not mean the family has to retell the whole story again. It also means the treating doctor can review progress between his own visits and adjust the plan early, instead of discovering a problem at the next scheduled review. Notes are kept in a proper medical record, not in a notebook on the bedside table.
Choosing a provider safely
Ask three questions before you book anyone. Is the provider licensed by the Dubai Health Authority, and is the individual nurse licensed too? Are visit notes kept in a medical record that you and your doctor can access? Is there a named person to call at ten at night when something does not look right? Informal freelance arrangements are cheaper, and they answer none of these three. If something goes wrong at two in the morning, the difference between a licensed provider and an unlicensed one stops being a matter of price.
Preparing the home before the first visit
You do not need a hospital bed. You need good light, a clean flat surface near the patient, somewhere to wash hands, and a lockable place for medicines. Keep the discharge summary and the current prescription together in one folder so the nurse is not searching for them. If your parent is on a visit visa without local insurance cover, say so while booking, so the cost is clear from the very first visit.
